Founded in 1918 by William Long and William Wells, the business has been a landmark for the City of Mullens and surrounding areas for more than 80 years.  Originally the dealership was named Long-Wells Chevrolet and remained that until the first change in hands.  Raymond Wells, son of part-owner William Wells, acquired the dealership in 1950 and business still grew but under a new name, Ray Wells Chevrolet.

     In 1973, Roy Forren was hired on as a salesman, coming from a previous job selling Volkswagen at a Wilmington, DE dealership.  Forren had only been there for 13 years before given an opportunity that he would have never imagined.  Raymond Wells sold the business to Forren in 1986, making it only the 2nd time that the dealership had changed hands in ownership. 

     Forren decided to not change the name of the business due to the well known name that it has had for so many years, Ray Wells Chevrolet.  After the years passed, new car business started to deminish and used cars stayed strong.  In 1999 GM (Chevrolet) was requiring certain updates to be done to the facility that just was not worth the trouble and money, so, Forren let the Chevrolet franchise go back and remained a used car dealer still under the name of Ray Wells, (Ray Wells Preowned Autos, Inc.)
